I'm into Navy stuff of the Napoleonic era - though more as an armchair-type historian (I re-enact land stuff but have an interest in pretty much anything to do with the period). And I have to ask: what's a 'shepherd's crook' rammer as opposed to the type you ought to use? I've only ever seen the long straight type used, with the guy standing well to the side.
